Let's get this started - you can feel free to add what's worked for you. Tattooes - Thoroughbreds have a tattoo on their upper lip. If you can read it, the Jockey Club will trace it for you for $35. Just go here: www.tjcis.com/otherServicesDisplay.asp?section=3If you have a horse's papers, try Googling the former owners' names. Put the whole name in quotes, then try putting the city or state outside of the quotes to narrow it down. Let's say I had a QH mare whose former owner was Gloria Greene in Modesto, California. I would Google the following: "Gloria Greene" Modesto Gloria Greene Modesto (in case a middle initial is used, this will give you the hit anyway - but lots of hits to go through!) "Gloria Greene" California "E-mail Gloria Greene" You get the idea. These combinations are likely to find you the contact information you need. I would say 90% of the people I search for on Google, I find. If you are searching for a Quarter Horse, I know AQHA will give you the name of the current registered owner on their web site if you join AQHA. www.aqha.comMore later...and feel free to add tips that have worked for you!
